A WoT movie in the making?

May 27, 2009

Apparently, there’s a very real possibility that at least the first book in the Wheel Of Time series,The Eye Of The World, will be turned into a movie… There’s a studio, writers and producers involved,if I understand correctly. Everything is still at a very early stage, though there is an Imdb page already, stating the release for sometime during 2011. Well..All I can say is that I seriously hope the writers, set designers, those responcible for casting, the director and everyone else involved has the time, patience and talent to pull this off. The series is so complex and filled with so many memorable characters, places and things, and it is beloved by so many, that they have a real challlenge ahead of them. There are so far 12 books, 14 if you count the prequel New Spring, annd the soon to be released 12th book A memory of Light(split into three parts, the first being The Gathering Storm, being released this fall), each close to the lenght of the entire Lord of the Rings.

I’m quite torn when it comes to this. A part of me is screaming nooooo at the top of my lungs, leave the masterpiece that is the books alone,  another is very exited about this, wanting to see Rand,Egwene, Nynaeve, Perrin,  Mat,  Moiraine, Lan, Tar Valon, The White Tower and Emond’s Field brough to life on screen, and is secretly casting the movie in her head.*bushes slightly. I myself would abselutely love to play any one of the Emond’s Fielders, or Min, but nah, that’s not going to happen.

If nothing else, it would make people aware of this masterpiece of a series and brilliance of Robert Jordan. Just as the Lord of the Rings movies brought the books and Tolkien to the greater masses.

That’s true…But still..They have a huuuge task ahead of them, and if they mess up, they’ll have some pretty pissed off fans after them.
The story itself would make a great movie, at least the first book. Jordan is so good at describing people and places that it shouldn’t be a problem as long as those in charge actualy take their time finding the right locations and actors. Though, for some reason I doubt they will take that time. Just look at what’s happening with the Twilight series rigth now. They’re rushing everything so they can make as much money as possible, Catherine Hardwicke, who directed Twilight, even quit because of it.
