R.I.P Julius Paltiel

Julius Paltiel was one of only 26 norwegian jews who survived the Auschwitz concentration-camp during WW2. He died friday 7th. march 2008 in his hometown of Trondheim, 83 years old.

My class was one of the lucky ones who got to hear him speak about his horrifying experiences in Auschwitz. What amazed me most was his attitude. He didn’t have any grudges, and no hate for the people who tortured him. His message was that nothing like the Holocaust should ever be allowed to happen again.

Paltiel lost most of his relatives during the Holocaust, and has since helped establish the Jewish Museum in Trondheim, and held countless lectures about the nazi regime and the war. He was knighted into the St. Olavs order in 2004.

Paltiel was such an inspiration, and has touched many lives. My heart goes out to his friends and family. He will be missed.

    Rest in piece

    Hvil i fred, Paltiel.
